Off to Milk Some Cows...

In an hour I leave for Lake Farm Park. I am super excited for this trip as it was one of my favorites when I was younger. My memories from this trip are particularly distinct- I remember walking around with my class and reaching our hands threw the wooden fence to touch the sheep, helping the directors feed the pigs, and of course, milking the cows. Out of every field trip, I recall this one being the most literally “hands on.”

I am curious as to how my perspective of the farm will change, or if it will change at all. Will I be underwhelmed, similar to my experience at the pretzel shop? Or quite oppositely, will I appreciate something that never crossed my mind earlier? Or both? Will my experience today impact how I reflect on my past experiences? Will my mom actually accompany me in milking a cow? I look forward to finding the answers to these questions and will be sure to share about my experience in my next post.

  2. Interesting story...I chaperoned Lake Farm Park field trips for all three of my children, varying by spring and fall seasons. I will never forget my daughter's field trip which occurred in the fall. One of the activities was to harvest potatoes, a fall crop. As the wind gusted across the field while we dug up our precious potatoes, I could not help recalling Gone With the Wind's Scarlett O'Hara, after losing everything, digging up a potato and declaring, "With God as my witness, I will never go hungry again!" Certainly the reference was lost on 2nd graders, but it still brings a chuckle every time I hear the name Lake Farm Park!
