Day One at Golfdom Magazine!
People always say there isn't anything better than delving right into the material on day 1, well I believe I have done just that. I've already been asked to research the history of the magazine from its early beginnings in 1927 through 1976 when it went on a two decade "hiatus" if you will. When it came back in the late 1990s, Golfdom had a whole new approach, not to the material contained in the magazine but the whole appearance of the magazine.
A little bit of background of the work I've done thus far - I started yesterday because my proctor was out of town on a business meeting in Florida. I came in yesterday to my own cubicle with everything any office worker could ask for and my own computer. Golfdom Magazine is owned by North Coast Media, a local publishing company. In the office are writers, columnists, editors of all the magazines NCM owns (this including Landscape Management, Pit & Quarry, GPS World, and others). Golfdom Magazine is focused for superintendents, club managers and pros at the course. Specifically, Golfdom specializes in the management of an actual course, how to get rid of diseases that might infect a course and how to keep your course looking new throughout the golf season. Golfdom is considered a B2B magazine, which means buyer to buyer where they revenue stream (Golfdom's) comes from advertisers who would make sales with superintendents who subscribe to the magazine. The importance of these types of magazines are the communication of ideas about managing golf courses but also the subscription superintendents get that allows them to see ads from companies before other buyers can.
So far my senior project has consisted of reading old magazines from Golfdom and studying the history behind this rich piece of magazine and golf history. There are multitudes of information that needs to be consumed, and it is up to me to do so for the completion of my first project here at Golfdom!
Nothing like diving right in! Nice.
