So Underrated...

Today, Caroline and I decided that the best way to see Savannah as a whole was by taking a trolley tour through all the major areas of the city. When I was in Savannah last spring, we took the same tour and I absolutely loved it, so I was excited to bring Caroline along for a second time and see her reaction to the behind-the-scenes information about the city that might not be apparent to the casual tourist. While the tour guide spouted off unlimited historical tidbits and facts, we rolled by town squares, shops, cafes, inns, and art galleries. The trolley tour is also one of the best ways to see my personal favourite facet of the city, which are the picturesque historical houses built as early as the beginning of the 19th century. Lined along the cobblestone streets, these houses feature beautiful ironwork banisters, brightly coloured shutters and doors, and gorgeous landscaping. Seeing the city for a second time in this way made me realize something: this city is so underrated. Countless important battles and developments to American history were made within those city limits. Savannah has a large Irish population, which makes their St. Patrick's day the second largest in the country. SCAD is a vibrant and well-loved aspect of the city that gives it a youthful and artsy feel. I could go on and on, but we're definitely going to spend the weekend and beginning of next week delving into the different aspects of the city including food, art, and history. Needless to say I'm most excited about food.
