Plot Twist...
As our first week came to a close, it became obvious to me and Caroline that the most fulfilling experiences we've had in Savannah have been chance encounters, spontaneous conversations, and strange twists of fate as we wander around the city. Fittingly, the debut of this week was the ultimate plot twist. The started off well with a visit to a local Waffle House, a Southern chain restaurant of dumpy diners that I find oddly charming. An odd compliment from what appeared to be a regular customer and some odd looks from college students jammed into one of the few booths got my gears turning, and we decided to return tomorrow on a mission for more material for our final piece. With our stomachs full of waffles and grits and our minds in writing mode, we drove into the city with the intention of finding a bookshop and spending the day experiencing the city like we have the past few days. Unfortunately, the world seemed to be against us from the moment we reached the city to about 3 pm. Humidity and high temperatures in the city made walking around nearly impossible, not only from sheer discomfort but also from the blisters that popped up on our feet from the soupy nature of the air. Long story short, we ended up walking laps around the city barefoot, shoes in hand, until we realized our meter had run out. Ditching our long-winded efforts to find a bookstore, we hopped into the car, and the much needed AC, and were ready to call it a day and head home when we decided to stop by a comic book store on the way back. We parked and were about to enter the comic book store when, to our immense shock, we noticed an unbelievably quaint bookshop right next door. In an unbelievable twist of fate, the bookshop was one of the most incredible discoveries we've made so far. Since Caroline is keeping things under wraps, so shall I...we plan on visiting again tomorrow in the hopes our lucky streak continues.

Bella, what an awesome plot twist! As I was reading your post, I would have just stayed in the pancake house and enjoyed many meals because of the weather and given circumstances! But, since you found the little book store in town, I guess the whole eating thing is out the window. I think it's awesome that you found this bookstore and can't wait to hear what it has to offer you (and caroline) in your project because it seems like it is the jackpot! When i was reading this post all I could think about was the movie "You've Got Mail" featuring Tom Hanks where the ladies little quaint bookstore is getting over run by big chain bookstores but the love and passion withheld in the small store is unmatched. Hopefully there is a remarkable story behind this bookstore! Good luck with the rest of your journey's throughout Savannah!
