An Unexpected Surprise

So for my (3 week) project is decided I wanted to help out mrs. Kahn at the lower and middle school in teaching swimming and physical education classes because, in addition to nursing, I am also considering physical education as a possible major. I went into day one expecting to be doing either one of two things each day: either to be playing fast football and capture the flag all day or to mainly be in the pool. Little did I know that I would not only be working with 4-8th graders but I would also assisting mrs. Kahn in teaching kindergarteners and preschoolers how to run, jump, skip, dance, and make animal noises.

The first few days have been fantastic for me. Honestly the main reasons I picked this project were because my other project ideas fell through, it wasn't very far from my house, and because it sounded like it was going to be easy and fun. I never thought that I would have the pleasure of working with four and five year olds teaching them extremely simple yet important life skills such as teamwork and basic problem solving that they will use for the rest of their lives in addition to coaching and supervising the 4-8th graders in the same games and exercises that I learned in my three years at the middle school. This project has turned out to be the perfect choice for me and I am anxious to continue moving forward with it over the next couple weeks.
