Chandeliers and MGMT Concert

Friday started with an unexpected turn of events. I was put on a project to go with dale down to university circle where we were tasked with hanging some chandeliers in a tent for the summer. Out of the people at vincent, he keeps more to himself, so until this point I hadnt really gotten a chance to talk with him. We didnt really talk on the way down there, but as we were rigging the chandeliers and running cable for them within the tents, he was giving some helpful suggestions and explaining his views on customer survice, and work ethic, which i really agree with. Fun fact- rigging chandeliers to tent pipes is not super hard, but sticking you hand through the tent cover velcro can really scratch up your arm. On the way back Dale told me a little bit more about his life and his history. He has been working for vincent for 13 years but really wants to be a high school social studies teacher. I thought that was interesting and i wish him the best of luck.

During lunch I got to experience "chipotle friday" for the first time. that was fun.

When i got back to the shop on friday afternoon we got into the task of pulling/prepping/teching all of the equipment for the Live Nation/MGMT tour that was coming to cleveland this weekend. Some types of the stuff we got to deal with were 15+ moving lights, 5 pieces of PRT (pre rig truss) all complete with light bars, par cans, and color, as well as probably 5 trunks of cable ranging from dmx to power, mult, adapters, and motor cable. We also of course had to pack 6 1 ton truss motors, rigging equipment of all sorts, and a very large dimmer rack to power the entire event... There was well over a quarter million dollars worth of equipment in that truck after we finished packing it. And it was cool to work on such a large mainstream show.

  1. Trent,

that's so cool that you got to work (mostly packing) for the MGMT concert, I heard it was a pretty sick concert, and that the lighting was unreal. Congrats on the first big gig (if you may).

I've been reading a lot of your blogs and it seems like the Vincent guys (and gals) are some really interesting people. It's cool to hear that some of them have other dream jobs and other hopes, just not lighting. We all have to have that goal and the passion to escape and do what we want to do in life, but it seems like you are really enjoying this whole experience.

Were the chandeliers heavy lifting? I'm curious to know if they trusted you with really nice chandeliers.. just kidding!

Hope your project continues to flourish and I can't wait to continue reading your awesome blogs from my cubicle.
